NEWS ARCHIVE - 2010
December 2010. We have just heard that the Friday Jesus Club (the after- school club run by Wendy and her team at Guestling Bradshaw School) has been awarded the "Top Takeover Day Award" (5-11 age category) by East Sussex Children's Services. The award comes with prize money of £250 which, no doubt, will be spent on something special. The award was gained for the club's involvement in Rother District Council's Anti-Graffiti Challenge.
A big "Well Done!" to Wendy and the gang.

September 17 - FILM NIGHT at Pett Chapel (a report from Wendy).

This was very exciting! It was the second film that we had shown for youngsters, this one being aimed at the younger children. So parents were asked to attend with them. We showed the film, 'Up' a cartoon film, which was funny, sad and happy and left us realising how valuable past and new relationships are. The team had lots of help in the kitchen when two parents took over the cooking of pizza and chips, which was great, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the pop-corn! We were able to finish sitting on the large cushions in prayer together. Fantastic!

September 11. On a wet and miserable Saturday morning, the place to be was definately Pett Chapel, on the occasion of the culmination of our 2010 Big Sow event. Youngsters were busy on craft and cooking activities and there were games for young and old, and the session finished with some lovely soup, accompanied by some very odd shaped bread rolls (the result of the earlier cooking activity).

Some brought along items grown from special "Big Sow" seeds, but Kieran Gagg's winning sunflower, at a whopping 7'11'', was rather too big to transport. We all agreed though that it was a magnificent specimen, and a worthy winner of our sunflower competition.

Many thanks to Wendy for organizing the event, to Betty for taking charge in the kitchen, and to everyone who came along to make it a great morning.

June 2010. QUIZ NIGHT. Clashing with the second of England's matches in the World Cup, this event was a bit of a disaster in attendance terms. However, out of the two teams that entered, I am pleased to say that the Methodist team came second. Nevertheless, I suspect that we had a lot more fun and certainly a lot more laughs than those who elected to watch the footy!

May was an extra-ordinary month for us at Pett, as four of our members became first-time grandparents, and two great-grandparents. First up was Chloe, born on 5th of May to parents Barry and Charlie, making grandparents of Keith and Glynis Miller.

Just 36 hours later Archie made a rather belated entrance (he was due a week before Chloe), a son to Jon and Stacey, and grandson to Ken and Wendy Hatch.

Four generations of Snows - does that constitute an avalanche? Finally, Betty and Derek Snow became great-grandparents with the birth of Grace to their granddaughter, Anne, on the 17th. All are reported to be doing well, and we reckon we've cornered the market in glamorous grannies (and great-grannies).

Monday, 29th March. The new Village Choir appears to have struck something of a chord, with no less than 26 turning up to the inaugural meeting. There can be few choirs boasting such a wide range of singing experience, which ranged from "none" to "operatic performance", but all sang happily together in a spirit of mutual acceptance. It will be a difficult job keeping such a diverse group interested and motivated, but for now we welcome this positive start, and we pray that the right leadership and guidance will emerge. Check the diary for the date of the next meeting.
Over the weekend of 20-21 March, Fishy were "on the road" in Alresford, Hampshire, as guests of Rev Dawn Carn. After playing a concert on the Saturday evening, they took part in worship on the Sunday morning, and by all accounts, a good time was had by all. Sadly, Fishy will be losing two key members in September as Matt and Aidan both head of to university. If you know of any budding young musicians or singers, please point them in our direction.
Mothering Sunday (14th March) saw the launch of "The Big Sow ", which has nothing to do with large pigs, but involves the distribution of packets of seed to families within the community. We hope that many will join us by planting and nurturing these seeds with a view to bringing a sample of their produce to a special "Big Sow" event in September. It is too early to say how this initiative will be received by the local community, so please pray with us that it will reap a good harvest in more than one way.
February 5th, 2010. Talking about being happy, we were very pleased to welcome young people from across the Circuit for a special film night, when we showed Will Smith in "The Pursuit of Happyness" ...(I know it's not spelt that way!) Our young guests appeared to enjoy both the film and the pizza that was served during the interval. Check out the trailer below for an idea of what you missed.
February 2010. Our new kitchen is looking splendid, and now requires just tiles to complete the job. Much of the credit for its appearance must go to Jon and Craig Hatch, who spent a couple of days finishing what Ken and I had started. It still doesn't look as big as it did in the "artist's impression" provided by B&Q, but Betty seems happy with it, and when Betty is happy, everyone is happy.
January 2010. The New Year started with a farewell for us here in Pett, as we said "goodbye" to Rev Bernard Crosby, on the occasion of his retirement as Rector of Pett, Fairlight and Guestling. During his period of service within the area, we have enjoyed close links with our Anglican neighbours ... not that we expect that to change, but we express our thanks to Bernard for his friendship and support, and we wish both him and his wife, Carol, every blessing in their retirement.
