NEWS ARCHIVE - 2009

November 1- It was our great pleasure to welcome family and friends, some of whom had travelled great distances (including, Georgia, Sweden, and St. Leonards on Sea) to support Grace and Clay on the occasion of the baptism of Michael Augustus Garner. The horrendous weather outside served only as a contrast to the warmth of the atmoshphere inside the building during a lovely service led by our own Rev Malcolm Hope. Afterwards, the entire party shared in a feast in the church hall, which appeared as if by magic ... and disappeared equally efficiently.

Rev DawnAugust 30 - A 16 seater minibus was filled with friends and supporters to travel to Alresford for Dawn's official "Welcome" service in her new church. After almost three and a half hours on the road, we arrived just 2 minutes before the service was due to start, causing chaos as frought stewards (clearly alarmed at this last-minute rush) tried to find extra chairs, and somewhere to put them in an already packed church. Nevertheless, we were made very welcome, as Dawn and Geoff clearly have been in this delightful corner of Hampshire. Here is Dawn, looking pretty in pink, and very much at home in her new ministry.

August 16 - To mark Dawn's last Sunday with us before she and Geoff make the move to Alresford, the morning service was followed by a lunch, at which we were joined by other friends and neighbours of this popular couple.

As always, Dawn played the role of servant (just practising for her high calling), here seen tending to the dietary needs of grand-daughter Jessica.

July 25 - Another working party to carry on the work in the kitchen. We did (just) manage to get the essentials installed in time for the Art & Flowers weekend. Made another dent in the list of jobs today, but there is plenty still left to do.
July 4 - The chapel was literally bursting at the seams as Stephen Page gave a terrific concert in aid of the Hollington Methodist rebuilding fund. As the "kick-off" time approached, people just kept arriving, and extra chairs were brought through from the hall until virtually every square inch of floor was covered. Stephen did not disappoint, with a wonderfully varied repertoir, all delivered with great skill and his trademark gentle humour.

June 20-21 Once again, our members and friends have assembled a stunning exhibition of art and flowers to delight visitors from near and far. More images from the Saturday can be seen at the foot of this page.

Nicole MartinIf you came to the exhibition on Saturday, you might have seen Nicole, pictured here tucking into a piece of chocolate cake. I subsequently learned that Nicole has been diagnosed with a rare medical condition called Neurofibromatosis. At present, Nicole is able to live a reasonably normal and active life, but that could change very rapidly, as this is a progressive and very unpredictable disease. With options for treatment being very limited, Nicole's mother, Vanessa, has set about raising money for the Neurofibromatosis Society, a registered charity which provides support to families affected by this condition, and funds research into treatment of the disease. If you would like to show your support for Nicole by making a donation you can do so via a special page set up for that very purpose. I very much hope that you will feel moved to do so.

June 2009. Our worship band "Fishy" received a welcome boost with a gift of £155 from the Accreditation Partnership, a registered charity with a particular interest in science and technology, and the work of the Church among young people. No decision has yet been made about how to spend the money, but in view of the aims of the Accreditation Partnership, it would seem appropriate to upgrade some aspect of the group's technical equipment.
May 23rd. Definately a good day!. Jon (eldest son of Ken & Wendy) married Stacey at Park Road Methodist Church. Congratulations to you both.

May 18-22 ... an eventful week in which no less than four of our members ended up spending at least one night in the Conquest Hospital. No personal details as the individuals concerned may not wish it, but all appear to be now either fixed up or improving.

I say that four went in, but actually five came out, as Grace gave birth to Michael, the latest member of the Pett family. Not all bad news then!

5th May - Am pleased to report that Wally and Wenda (aka Ken & Wendy) and their £100 banger made it safely to Madrid, and in doing so raised over £1,600 to support the work of the Martha Trust. Well done to both of you, and to the other participants ... an eclectic bunch, but clearly all blessed with a surplus of optimism.
Have just heard that Dawn's Welcome Service will take place at Alresford Methodist Church at 4pm on Sunday 30th August. A group of us will be travelling down to support Dawn on this occasion. If you'd like to join us, please contact us so that we can think about transport arrangements.

Ok, so we didn't quite manage to get the kitchen finished in time for Easter.

However, this didn't prevent us from enjoying a delicious breakfast in the church hall, and Hebe and Alice made the best of our "improvised" facilities to make a grand job of the washing up.

Saturday 27th February. See the Refurbishment Diary for news of the commencement of work to upgrade our kitchen facilities.

Ken & Wendy with the £100 banger which will (hopefully) get them to MadridOn Saturday 2nd May Ken and Wendy are setting off for Madrid in a £100 banger to raise money for the Martha Trust, a centre in Hastings which provides much needed support for young people with profound and multiple disabilities.

The victorious teamSaturday 17th January 2009

Members of Pett Methodist (with a little help from Lynda) proved that they are more than just pretty faces by winning the Great Circuit Quiz. This also helps to explain the extra special treat of chocolates along with our tea and coffee after worship on the following Sunday.

A fair crowd braved the cold weather to join us for the latest of our film evenings. The peculiarities of copyright law dictate that we can't announce on this website what we are planning to show, but we can tell you about it after we've shown it. In fact, you can see below a snippet of what you missed. The animated film "The Prince of Egypt" tells the story of Moses, and features a strong cast and wonderful music by Stephen Schwartz.

During a short interval, visitors were treated to a variety of Egyptian inspired refreshments, surely our most unusual spread to date. If you'd like to find out about forthcoming event before they happen, please see details of how to become a Friend of Pett Chapel .

News just in of Dawn's posting. With effect from September, she will be moving to take up her first ministerial post in Alresford, Hampshire. Check out Dawn's news page for full details.

January 2009 - The new kitchen has arrived. Apparently it looks like the picture on the left ... but it's hard to tell when it's still in boxes.

Check out the Refurbishment diary for the latest.
